A RESOLUTION


Commending the Georgia Peach Festival and the 2010 Georgia Peach Queens; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the peach has long been a nationally recognized symbol for the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia peach industry has played a significant role in the economic growth and prosperity of our state, and Georgia ranks second in the nation in the annual production of peaches; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Peach Festival originated in Peach County, Georgia, in 1987, thanks to the inspiration of Mr. Harold Peavy, who conceived the festival for the purpose of promoting Peach County, Georgia, and the peach industry; and

WHEREAS, this annual festival celebrates Peach County's status as one of the largest producers of peaches in the state; and

WHEREAS, in connection with this celebration, five very fine young ladies were crowned as 2010 Peach Queens, including Tiny Miss Georgia Peach, Alyssa Bernard; Little Miss Georgia Peach, Sylandi Simone Brown; Junior Miss Georgia Peach, Jamie Walloch; Teen Miss Georgia Peach, Cori Beth Sutton; and Miss Georgia Peach, McKenzie Beach; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this festival and its representatives be recognized by this body.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Peach Festival for promoting the importance of this agricultural product of Georgia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Peach Festival.
