A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
and celebrating the 50th birthday of E.A. White Elementary School; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
E.A. White Elementary School was named in honor of Lieutenant Edward Ansel White
in 1962; and
WHEREAS,
Lieutenant White joined the United States Army and received a commission at West
Point in 1944, attended school at Fort Riley and the Infantry School at Fort
Benning after graduation, was assigned to a regiment in Japan, and was sent to
Korea in June of 1950; and
WHEREAS,
after he was killed in action on August 2, 1950, near Kumchon during the Korean
War, he was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his valiant
conduct; and
WHEREAS,
in honor of his sacrifice, about 350 students, teachers, relatives, and military
leaders were gathered at the school for a birthday program; and
WHEREAS,
the birthday program at the school included a slide show of Lieutenant White, a
skit by Colonel Michael Rauhut and his son, Jacob, and filling a time capsule;
and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that E.A. White Elementary School and Lieutenant
White be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable
time.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Lieutenant Edward Ansel White and commend E.A.
White Elementary School on the occasion of its 50th birthday.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to E.A. White Elementary
School.
