A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the William Cobb Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7583 in Roswell, Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, the William Cobb Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7583 in Roswell, Georgia, received its congressional charter on June 9, 1946; and

WHEREAS, members of VFW Post 7583 have long been recognized for demonstrating a deep personal commitment to protecting democracy and willingness to sacrifice their own personal safety and comfort to ensure the well-being of their fellow man; and

WHEREAS, members of VFW Post 7583 have served as guardians of this nation's freedom and liberty and have diligently and conscientiously undergone intensive and rigorous training in order to serve their country with honor and distinction during times of war; and

WHEREAS, one of the first VFW posts in the South to break the color barrier, VFW Post 7583 served as home to the Tuskegee Airmen's Association from 1946 to 1985, when Tuskegee Institute received its university status and the association returned home to Tuskegee, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, VFW Post 7583 currently has 300 combat veteran members, 100 War era veterans, and is under the leadership of Post Commander William J. Mitiu; and

WHEREAS, it is important that the members of VFW Post 7583 along with all current members of the military and veterans are thanked for their selfless service to this nation and honored for their unyielding commitment to protecting the people and ideals of the United States; and

WHEREAS, in line with the VFW's motto of "honoring our dead by helping the living," VFW Post 7583 and the American Legion will dedicate a shared facility as the combined Warrior Service Center on April 16, 2011; and

WHEREAS, members of VFW Post 7583 embody the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than themselves, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments and sacrifices of these remarkable and distinguished Americans be honored appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their most profound appreciation for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom and commend the William Cobb Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7583 for its service to this nation, veterans, and the local community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Post Commander William J. Mitiu.
