A RESOLUTION


Commending Edward M. Many; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Edward M. Many has long been recognized by everyone associated with state and local government as one of the most competent and knowledgeable masters of the specialized arcana of national, state, and local taxation who has ever worked for the Department of Revenue; and

WHEREAS, he is an honest and dedicated public servant who strives for excellence in all his endeavors and whose primary concern is the financial welfare of Georgia and its citizens and his unparalleled work ethic epitomizes perfectly the ideal and true spirit of public service; and

WHEREAS, this beloved individual has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties throughout his career of peerless public service in the Department of Revenue as Deputy Commissioner for Tax since March 1, 2005 and director of the Central Audit Division from September, 1993 through February, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Ed is the consummate tax professional and brought to the operation and administration of the Department of Revenue an unprecedented wealth of experience with his prior service as senior manager in the multi-state tax consulting group of Price Waterhouse for two years and his 23 years with the District of Columbia Department of Finance and Revenue; and

WHEREAS, the members of this body, and in particular the members of the Senate Finance Committee who worked closely with Ed on so many taxing matters, will always admire his consistently thorough consideration of taxation issues presented to the Senate, and his integrity and reliability rightfully earned him our honor, respect, and trust over the years; and
WHEREAS, he has consistently demonstrated a solid commitment to the careful study of sensitive issues and proposed solutions and has quickly developed a reputation as an equitable, impartial leader whose decisions are governed by the rules of honesty and fair play and whose actions are marked by unmatched dignity, grace, and wisdom; and

WHEREAS, his unparalleled organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community and state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, he retired from public service in November, 2010, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary attainments of this exceptional and singular tax professional be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Edward M. Many for the almost two decades of effective, efficient, unselfish, and dedicated service that he has rendered on behalf of Georgia; congratulate him upon his well-deserved retirement; and extend to him their utmost appreciation for his having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Edward M. Many.
