RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Austin Nelson; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Austin Nelson was born on April 4, 1994, in McDonough, Georgia, and is the
beloved son of Allen Nelson and Donna and Tommy Gilchrist; and
WHEREAS,
this 16 year-old demonstrated great courage and selflessness when he helped save
his elderly neighbors from a fire in their home; and
WHEREAS,
Austin was walking home from a friend's house when he noticed smoke billowing
oddly from a neighbor's chimney after it had caught fire; and
WHEREAS,
with quick thinking and showing compassionate concern for another, Austin raced
to the neighbor's home and warned the senior homeowners, Edward and Sarah Lois
Duffy, that their chimney was on fire; and
WHEREAS,
Austin called the fire department and used the homeowner's hose to abate the
growing flames until help arrived; and
WHEREAS,
a junior at Ola High School, Austin is a member of Skills USA, the FFA club, and
the Air Force ROTC class; and
WHEREAS,
Austin enjoys adventure and sports such as baseball, football, fishing, hunting,
and four-wheeling; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that this body recognize the brave and selfless
actions of McDonough's hometown hero, Austin Nelson.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Austin Nelson for his heroic and life-saving actions and commend his impeccable
character and courage.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Austin Nelson.
