A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Arthur Grier; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Arthur Grier on April 25, 2008; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grier was born on July 16, 1931, in Sharon, Georgia, a beloved son of Joe
and Sadie Grier; and
WHEREAS,
he received vocational training from the Georgia Institute of Technology,
Clayton State College, and the Georgia State Association of Power Engineers,
Inc.; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Grier was baptized at Friendship C.M.E.
Church in Raytown and was an active member of Cosmopolitan A.M.E. Church in
Atlanta, where he served faithfully on the board of stewards, board of trustees,
and as president of the male chorus, coordinator of the clothing ministry, and
pro tem of the steward board; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a co-owner of a Tasty Freeze eatery in Atlanta, worked for the
Crown Candy Company and the Atlanta Steel Company, and dedicated 34 years of
loyal service to the Ford Motor Company; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grier was united in love and marriage to Mary Welborn in 1954, and was
blessed with two remarkable children, Shimon and Atonjular, and a wonderful
granddaughter, Shimena; and
WHEREAS,
active in his community, Mr. Grier was a mason and member of the Ford Motor
Company Times Retirees Club and enjoyed deep sea fishing, Braves baseball,
exercising, and listening to gospel music; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Grier will long be remembered for his love
of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother,
uncle, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Arthur Grier and express their deepest and
most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Arthur
Grier.
