RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Matthew Philip Offutt; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most promising young citizens
with the untimely passing of Matthew Philip Offutt on April 16, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Matthew was the beloved son of Stephanie and Tim Offutt and the loving younger
bother of Riann and Makaila; and
WHEREAS,
a freshman at Richmond Hill High School in Savannah, Georgia, Matthew's favorite
subjects were math and science; and
WHEREAS,
he enjoyed playing basketball, drawing, video games, music, and spending time
with his family and friends; and
WHEREAS,
afflicted with cancer, Matthew dreamed of being a herpetologist or geneticist;
and
WHEREAS,
Matthew was a compassionate and generous teenager with a great sense of humor
and a heart of gold; and
WHEREAS,
he leaves behind many who will cherish his memory and positive influence,
including his parents, his sisters, his cherished cat Sidney, and numerous
loving relatives and close friends; and
WHEREAS,
by the example Matthew made of his life, he made this world a better place in
which to live, and though his life was cut tragically short, Matthew's memory
and example will live on through the many lives he touched; and
WHEREAS,
Matthew will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this
loyal son, brother, classmate, and friend will be missed by all who had the
great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Matthew Philip Offutt and express their deepest
and most sincere regret at his untimely passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Matthew
Philip Offutt.
