RESOLUTION
Urging
the Georgia Department of Transportation to prioritize a certain project; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in these uncertain economic times all of the resources devoted to improving
transportation in this state need to be utilized efficiently; and
WHEREAS,
SR 17 is an important state highway that needs to be upgraded in order to
maximize economic development along its corridor; and
WHEREAS,
another compelling reason to prioritize the upgrade of SR 17 is to protect the
safety of the motorists who use it on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS,
the benefits of prioritizing the upgrade of this strategic regional project
would not only spread to the people of the area, but to the entire state, as it
would intertwine seamlessly with the Georgia Department of Transportation's goal
of a developing a state-wide transportation network.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
urge the Georgia Department of
Transportation to prioritize the necessary upgrades to SR 17 between I-20 in
Thompson, Georgia, and I-85 in Lavonia, Georgia, as part of its development of a
state-wide transportation network.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the commissioner of
transportation, the planning director of transportation, and the State Board of
Transportation.
