A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Southeast Bulloch High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Southeast Bulloch High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) has earned the United States Army's highest national award, Honor Unit with Distinction, for the 19th consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, the JROTC is a federal program sponsored by the branches of the United States Armed Forces in high schools and was established under the National Defense Act of 1916; and

WHEREAS, participants in the JROTC develop good citizenship, patriotism, and respect for the military, and with two to four years in a high school JROTC program students can achieve a higher ranking should they pursue a career in the military; and

WHEREAS, the prestigious Honor Unit with Distinction is awarded to JROTC programs that maintain the highest standards in ten major inspection areas; and

WHEREAS, this year, the Southeast Bulloch High School JROTC earned a score of 97.7 percent, the highest score ever achieved by the program in its 19 year history; and

WHEREAS, Southeast Bulloch High School JROTC student leaders were Master Sergeant Caleb Alford, 1st Lieutenant Lanny Byrd, Captain Joshua Cannon, Captain Ceilon Cryer, Command Sergeant Major Margaret Cryer, Captain Priscilla Cryer, 1st Sergeant Anthony Gardner, Major Jeremiah Jones, Major Nicholas Kisiel, 2nd Lieutenant Gene Morris, Sergeant 1st Class Saliek Murphy, Lieutenant Colonel Chad Oglesby, Sergeant 1st Class Alex Shearback, Captain Kimberly Skaarup, 1st Lieutenant William Sparrow, Sergeant 1st Class Stephen Strickland, 1st Sergeant Gerald Terry, 2nd Lieutenant Jared Wood, and 1st Sergeant Tyler Yarbrough; and

WHEREAS, this award-winning JROTC program was advised by Major Tom McElwee and 1st Sergeant Roy Whitfield; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of these distinguished JROTC cadets be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Southeast Bulloch High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp on their pursuit of excellence and congratulate them upon earning the most prestigious Honor Unit with Distinction.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Southeast Bulloch High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp.
