A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending On Common Ground News on the occasion of its 17th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, On Common Ground News was established in April of 1995 as a community newsletter covering seven communities in South DeKalb County by Mr. Glenn L. Morgan, an entrepreneur who wanted to connect the many transplants in the area where he lived with the surrounding businesses, schools, public government, and houses of worship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan utilized the skills of his wife, Valerie Morgan, a veteran journalist who formerly worked as an editor for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, to help create On Common Ground; and

WHEREAS, after three short months, the four page newsletter grew to a four color monthly news magazine and was published as a news magazine until December of 2002, as it continued to expand its circulation in South DeKalb; and

WHEREAS, in 2003, On Common Ground, Inc., became a broadsheet newspaper under the name On Common Ground News and began publishing twice a month by the end of the year; and

WHEREAS, today, On Common Ground News serves communities in Atlanta, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties, publishing a print edition on the first and 15th of each month and a weekly digital edition; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the contributions of this distinguished newspaper be appropriately recognized during this special time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Glenn L. Morgan and On Common Ground News for 17 years of connecting and engaging the citizens of their community and extend to them their sincere best wishes for future success.
