A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the State YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly is a model state legislature for high
school students in which students serve as legislators, justices, attorneys, and
lobbyists; and
WHEREAS,
participants in the Youth Assembly may run for the offices of Youth Governor,
Lt. Governor, and Speaker of the House; and
WHEREAS,
students participating in the Youth Assembly are also given the opportunity to
explore the role the media plays in government by participating in the
production of a daily newspaper; and
WHEREAS,
established in 1946, the Youth Assembly conference takes place in the historic
halls of the Georgia State Capitol, providing participants with an experience of
a lifetime; and
WHEREAS,
this year, the Youth Assembly celebrates its 67th anniversary, and the YMCA of
Georgia celebrates 83 years of excellence and tradition; and
WHEREAS,
the 67th Youth Assembly was made up of many bright and eager young leaders,
including Youth Governor Elizabeth Holland, Lt. Governor Nicole Futch, Speaker
of the House Jay Jones, President Pro Tem Alex Sorohan, Speaker Pro Tem of the
House Katie Rosemond, Chief Justice Eliza Rothstein, Associate Justice Katie
Googe, Secretary of the Senate Annie Speyer, Assistant Secretary of the Senate
Carly Dye, Senate Floor Leader Sophie Chen, Senate Doorkeeper Jarrett Cartee,
Senate Messenger Sarah Hoyt, Clerk of the House Kayla Accord, Assistant Clerk of
the House Aly Schortinghouse, House Floor Leader Mitcham Tuell, House Doorkeeper
Matthew Moore, and House Messenger Ahzuree Herbert; and
WHEREAS,
the Youth Assembly allows students to experience firsthand the excitement and
importance behind the legislative process and better understand the complexity
of the lawmaking process in this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the State YMCA of Georgia's Youth Assembly for 67 years of teaching Georgia's
future leaders the legislative process.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the State YMCA of Georgia.
