A RESOLUTION


Recognizing January 25, 2011, as School Choice Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, all children in Georgia should have the right to the highest quality schools available; and

WHEREAS, citizens across Georgia agree that improving the quality of education in this state and expanding access to great schools should be an issue of importance to state leaders; and

WHEREAS, Georgia has a multitude of high quality public schools, public charter schools, and private schools; and

WHEREAS, the vital need for education reform is one that transcends ideology and political party affiliation; and

WHEREAS, research in Georgia and across the nation conclusively demonstrates that providing children with multiple schooling options improves academic performance; and

WHEREAS, numerous organizations in Georgia work to uplift the lives of students and advocate school choice for families, including, Center for an Educated Georgia, Georgia Charter Schools Association, Georgia Parent Advocacy Network, Agudath Israel of America, Torah Day School of Atlanta, Apogee Georgia School Choice Scholarship Fund, Arete Scholars Fund, G.R.A.C.E. Scholars, Americans for Prosperity Georgia, Georgia Public Policy Foundation, American Federation for Children, and the Foundation for Educational Choice.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the importance of providing Georgia families with access to quality education and the ability to choose the school that is best suited to their child's needs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that January 25, 2011, is recognized as School Choice Day at the state capitol.
