BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To
provide for expanded powers and duties of the Cherokee County Development
Authority; to provide a statement of authority; to provide that such authority
may acquire structures for use as an office, a warehouse, a regional commercial
development, or a research and development facility; to repeal conflicting laws;
and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
This
Act is enacted pursuant to the authority contained in that amendment to the
Constitution of Georgia creating the Cherokee County Development Authority (Ga.
L. 1966, p. 938), granting the General Assembly the power to enlarge or restrict
the powers and duties of such authority.
SECTION
2.
The
powers and duties of the Cherokee County Development Authority found in
paragraph (5) of subsection (D) of Section 1 of the amendment to the
Constitution referred to in Section 1 of this Act are expanded as
follows:
"(5)
To encourage and promote the expansion and development of industrial and
commercial facilities in Cherokee County so as to relieve insofar as possible
unemployment within its boundaries, and to that end to acquire by purchase or
gift any building or structure within the limits of Cherokee County, suitable
for and intended for use as a factory, mill, shop, processing plant, assembly
plant, fabricating plant, office, warehouse, regional commercial development, or
research and development facility, including all necessary and appurtenant lands
and appurtenances thereto, and all necessary or useful furnishings, machinery,
and equipment. Such acquisition may be through the acquisition of land and the
construction thereon of a building, including the demolition of existing
structures, or through the acquisition of an existing building and the
remodeling, reconstructing, furnishing, and equipping of such
building;"
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
