A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Lieutenant Raleigh Durrett; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Lieutenant Raleigh Durrett on November 26, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Durrett was highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, he was employed by the Hart County Road Department in the 1970's and began his career in law enforcement in 1987 as a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections at Lee Arrendale State Prison; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Durrett worked full-time at the Whitworth Parole Center for 22 years and part-time with the Hart County Sheriff's Department since 2001; and

WHEREAS, he assisted in training correctional officers and volunteered coaching detainees in basketball and softball; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Durrett was united in love and marriage to Mary Gwen Durrett and was blessed with three remarkable children and four wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Durrett exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties, and his efficient and effective commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his peers; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Lieutenant Durrett will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Lieutenant Raleigh Durrett and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Lieutenant Raleigh Durrett.
