A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Harold Silas Brooks; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one its finest and most distinguished
citizens, Mr. Harold Silas Brooks; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Brooks was born on February 15, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, a beloved son of
Sylvester S. Simmons and William Terrell Brooks; and
WHEREAS,
he earned the nickname "Spoons" for his musical spoon playing skills as a
musician in Rochester, New York, performing with the Harold S. Brooks Quintet;
and
WHEREAS,
a man dedicated to his faith and his community, Mr. Brooks served as a Deacon at
Thankful Missionary Baptist Church and spent his spare time assisting others at
the Lou Walker Senior Center in DeKalb County; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Brooks worked in the construction industry for 37 years and was a member of
the Laborers Local 438 and 515; and
WHEREAS,
this courageous and devoted man was a source of pride to his community, state,
and nation with three years of service in the United States Army;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Brooks was united in love and marriage to Donna Lee Brooks, and he was
blessed with four loving children: Mattie L. Smith, Beverly Davis, Janice Pass,
and Michael Brooks, Sr., 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS,
all who were privileged to know this extraordinary Georgian will cherish
his
memory and the wonderful times
shared and join his family in mourning his loss.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
joins in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Harold Silas Brooks and expressing
its appreciation of his many contributions to his community and the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Brooks's
family.
