A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and its staff for being named the
world's most efficient airport; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
for the third consecutive year, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
has been selected as the most efficient major airport in the world by the Air
Transport Research Society; and
WHEREAS,
according to the Federal Aviation Administration, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport retains its title as the country's busiest airport in
terms of operations for the fourth consecutive year; and
WHEREAS,
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport welcomed more than 90 million
passengers in 2008, a record number which exceeds every other airport in the
world; and
WHEREAS,
thanks to Hartsfield-Jackson's global access in 2008 to more than 90
destinations in 55 countries, international passengers traveling through the
airport reached an all-time high of 9 million, up 3.2 percent over 2007;
and
WHEREAS,
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is the world's leading air cargo
center, handling more than 900,000 tons of cargo annually; and
WHEREAS,
the airport has a $23 billion annual economic impact to the State of Georgia and
is indirectly responsible for nearly 400,000 jobs; and
WHEREAS,
General Manager Ben DeCosta has provided outstanding leadership of
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments and
service provided at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and its dedicated
staff be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate General Manager Ben DeCosta and commend Hartsfield
Jackson-International Airport and its staff for being named the world's most
efficient airport.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Ben
DeCosta.
