RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. David L. Shipp; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. David L. Shipp has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment
to business success and customer satisfaction; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Shipp has been named as the 2011 Jerry Barboe Small Business Person of the
Year for his dedication to excellence; and
WHEREAS,
the Jerry Barboe Small Business Person of the Year was established in 1988 and
is presented to the Conyers-Rockdale businessperson who represents the highest
ideals of business integrity and dedication to the community, as was exemplified
by Mr. Jerry Barboe, a long-time Rockdale County business owner and community
advocate; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Rockdale County, Mr. Shipp graduated from the University of Georgia
and grew up working in his family's business, the third oldest business in
Rockdale County, having been in business for over 80 years; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Shipp is the owner of Puritan Dry Cleaners on West Avenue in Rockdale
County, which currently employs 24 people and has won Favorite Dry Cleaner in
the Rockdale
Citizen newspaper Readers Choice Awards on
numerous occasions; and
WHEREAS,
a leader of the Rockdale community, Mr. Shipp has been an active member of the
Rockdale Jaycees, Kiwanis Club of Conyers, Rockdale Republican Party, and Lion's
Club; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Shipp has served as a bishop of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; and
WHEREAS,
he is an active member on the Board of Governors of the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber
of Commerce, where he has served for the last three years as chairman of the
governmental affairs committee; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Mr. David L. Shipp for his successful business career;
commend his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated community service;
and congratulate him upon being named the 2011 Jerry Barboe Small Business
Person of the Year.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. David L.
Shipp.
