A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Sarah Louise Hinton-Howard; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Sarah Louise Hinton-Howard on December 23, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Howard was born on March 31, 1913, in Social Circle, Georgia, the beloved
daughter of the late Olin and Estella Hinton; and
WHEREAS,
she graduated at the top of her class from The Union Institute in Athens and
tutored children and adults in her community to help them learn to read;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Howard was united in love and marriage to the late Nathan Howard, Sr., on
October 1, 1933, a union blessed with 12 children; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Howard joined Mars Hill Church in 1925
at the age of 12 and was active in the choir and on the Mothers Board;
and
WHEREAS,
a talented and loving cook, Mrs. Howard enjoyed preparing food for family and
friends and was known for her delicious fried pies, sweet potato pies, Brunswick
stew, and oyster stew; and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Howard leaves behind many who will cherish her memory, including her
children, Lewis, Olin, Robert, Estella, Ella Louise, Jerry, Garland, and Julia;
29 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Howard will long be remembered for her
love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, grandmother, cousin, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Sarah Louise
Hinton-Howard and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her
passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Sarah Louise Hinton-Howard.
