A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Mary Cochran McCorkle on the grand occasion of her 100th
birthday; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Mary Cochran McCorkle was born on January 26, 1911, in Taylor County,
Georgia, and this year she enjoys the rare distinction of celebrating her 100th
birthday; and
WHEREAS,
the beloved daughter of Mary Elizabeth Daniel Cochran and William Thomas
Cochran, Mrs. McCorkle attended the Rupert School was active in the Rupert
Community Homemakers Club, Butler Garden Club, Taylor County Farm Bureau, Flint
EMC Task Force, and Parent Teachers Association; and
WHEREAS,
she was united in love and marriage to Zack Respess McCorkle on November 30,
1930, and she has been blessed with the support and kindness of her children,
Betty and Edwin Allen and Barbara and John Hartley, four grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS,
the devotion, patience, and understanding she has demonstrated have provided
the foundation and framework of success in which her family members have
developed and flourished; and
WHEREAS,
from 1966 to 1987 Mrs. McCorkle exhibited cakes, cookies, candy, and canned food
at the Chattahoochee Valley Fair where she won over 200 blue ribbons;
and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. McCorkle is a member of the Mt. Nebo
Primitive Baptist Church where she was responsible for maintaining the church
cemetery for many years; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. McCorkle is a woman of great compassion and kindness, taking into her home
a mentally disabled homeless boy during the 1930's who she provided for until
his passing some 70 years later; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high
ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, being known by many
for her willingness to lend a hand to others in need, whether it be through
food, transportation, or a kind word; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. McCorkle is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable
reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and she brings
joy and happiness to her many friends, neighbors, and family members who have
the great pleasure of knowing her; and
WHEREAS,
by the example Mrs. McCorkle has made of her life, she makes this world a better
place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be
appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her
life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Mrs. Mary Cochran McCorkle upon the remarkable occasion
of her 100th birthday and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for
continued health and happiness

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mary
Cochran McCorkle.
