RESOLUTION
Commending
Mrs. Lola Dixon; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Lola Dixon was born on January 10, 1917 in Long County, Georgia, to Julius
and Martha Perry and was raised in Liberty County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
upon completing her education at Dorchester Academy in Midway, Georgia, Mrs.
Dixon graduated as salutatorian of the 1961 graduating class at the Gillespie
School of Nursing in Marietta, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
in 1961, Mrs. Dixon also became the first African American member of the nursing
staff at Liberty Memorial Hospital in Hinesville, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Dixon is an active member of St. Peter's A.M.E. Church in Midway, Georgia,
where she has served as a stewardess and president of the Usher Board;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Dixon has also been selfless with her time serving on the Liberty County
Board of Health as well as an active member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Inc., and
the Limerick Chapter #336 of the Order of the Eastern Star; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Dixon has received numerous awards, including the Trailblazer Award
presented by the Liberty County Martin Luther King, Jr., Observance Committee in
honor of her service to nursing and for her leadership in the Liberty County
community; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Dixon serves as a shining example as to what each person should strive to
be.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mrs. Lola Dixon for her contributions to health and the
Liberty County community.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and
directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lola Dixon.
