RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Angela Elizabeth Brown; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Angela Elizabeth Brown is a leading community organizer dedicated to ending
human rights abuses within the United States and around the world;
and
WHEREAS,
she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and religion from the
University of North Carolina and a Masters of Divinity degree from
Interdenominational Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS,
she currently manages Imani Services, Inc., a consulting firm she founded in
2006 that works in partnership with nonprofit organizations to help them develop
programs, align organizational strategies, and evaluate value so that nonprofits
can grow and develop their mission and vision effectively; and
WHEREAS,
she serves in several organizations, including the Charis Circle, the
Franklinton Center, the 21st Century Youth Leadership Movement, the Southern
Association of Black Educators, the Andrew Goodman Foundation's Freedom Summer
Project, the Fund for Southern Communities, the Forefront Leaders, the Southern
Organizing Community, and the Trinity College-Human Rights Program;
and
WHEREAS,
she has received numerous honors, including the Reebok Human Rights Award in
1995 and the 2003 Urban Everyday Heroes Award; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Brown serves as supply pastor at Northern
Heights Presbyterian Church and is an ordained elder and minister at First
African Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately
recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms. Angela Elizabeth Brown for her effective, efficient, unselfish, and dedicated public service to ending human rights abuses in the United States and around the world.
