A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Anna E. English; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Anna E. English on March 19, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. English was born on July 7, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a beloved
daughter of the late Lovett H. and Alice Clyde Ray Edwards; and
WHEREAS,
raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. English graduated from Booker T. Washington
High School at the age of 15, attended Clark College, where she studied social
studies and French and served as president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and
earned a master's degree in counseling from Atlanta University; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. English dedicated 40 years to challenging and uplifting the lives of
Georgia's students as an educator, serving as a substitute teacher at Washington
High School, an educator at Howard High School and Price High School, an
employee for the Area 1 Office, vice principal of West Fulton High School, and
principal of Peyton Forest Elementary School; and
WHEREAS,
an active community leader, Mrs. English was a Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority and served as president of the Boulder Park Civic Club and the Atlanta
Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. English was an charter member of Church
of the Master Presbyterian Church, where she chaired several ministries and
served as an elder, Clerk of Session, and an elected Commissioner to the
Presbytery of Greater Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. English was united in love and marriage to Louis English and the couple
adopted her niece, Barbara, after her sister's passing, who blessed them with a
son-in-law, Jerry Leath, and two remarkable grandsons, Christopher and Gregory;
and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. English will long be remembered for her
love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, grandmother, aunt, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Anna E. English and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Anna E. English.
