Recognizing and commending the Grayson High School football team on their 2011 Georgia High School Association Class AAAAA State Football Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Grayson High School football team began playing in 2000, and through perseverance and iron determination, the team finished a perfect (16-0) season in 2011 that resulted in their first Georgia High School Association title in school history after only 12 seasons of competition defeating Walton High School 24-0; and

WHEREAS, the football program has grown from its modest beginning as a handful of hard-working players and coaches with little equipment and no practice field into one of the nation's premier football programs; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Mickey Conn, a former South Gwinnett and University of Alabama player and coach, has been the program's only head coach, compiling a 100-37 record across 12 seasons and a 60-9 record the past five years at the AAAAA classification; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Conn was named the state Coach of the Year in 2011, and the Grayson High School football team was ranked number four in the nation in both 2010 and 2011 by pools which consider all classifications throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Grayson High School's football program has drawn the attention of college football recruiters nation-wide and has placed more than 50 players in college football programs who have earned athletic grants or scholarships; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach Mickey Conn; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Grayson High School football team for winning the 2011 Georgia High School Association Class AAAAA State Football Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Grayson High School football team.
