A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Representative Amos Amerson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Representative Amos Amerson has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia House of Representatives as Representative since 2005; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States military for 22 years; and

WHEREAS, Representative Amerson was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joint Strategic Targeting Planning Staff which analyzed intelligence to determine Russia's capabilities and afterwards planned targets for strategic nuclear delivery, and he was the Chief of the Strategic Analysis Section; and

WHEREAS, he valiantly and courageously protected his fellow Americans in Vietnam and most of the Pacific Region from Korea to Thailand and served his last tour of duty with the Atomic Energy Commission under the Department of Energy; and

WHEREAS, Representative Amerson has a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering with a specialty in radiation safety, a master's degree in quantitative methods, and a PhD in economic statistics; and

WHEREAS, he taught in the Business Department at North Georgia College and State University from 1982 to 1998; and

WHEREAS, beginning with the 2005 session, Representative Amerson's leadership and guidance were instrumental as chairman of the Science and Technology Committee and he is also a member of the House Committees on Appropriations, Higher Education, Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications, and State Planning and Community Affairs; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Anne; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend their esteemed colleague, Representative Amos Amerson, on his selfless, efficient, and effective service to the State of Georgia and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Representative Amos Amerson.
