RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation on the occasion
of its 75th anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
75 years ago, most of rural Georgia existed in a world of candles and lantern
light after the sun went down; and
WHEREAS,
long after most urban citizens had electric lights and power, Georgia's rural
quality of life and productivity were severely hampered by the lack of widely
available electricity; and
WHEREAS,
in 1937 a petition for chartering Central Georgia Electric Membership
Corporation (EMC) was filed and on June 11, 1937, the organization officially
came into being; and
WHEREAS,
Central Georgia EMC serves Bibb County, Butts County, Clayton County, Fayette
County, Henry County, Jasper County, Jones County, Lamar County, Monroe County,
Morgan County, Newton County, Pike County, Putnam County, and Spalding County;
and
WHEREAS,
Central Georgia EMC's purpose is to provide highly reliable service at the
lowest practicable cost; and
WHEREAS,
the corporation has grown steadily from its small beginning to approximately
51,097 meters served and 5,313 miles of line as of December 31, 2011;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of this
corporation be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body heartily commend Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation for
providing 75 years of reliable electric service to its members and extend their
sincere best wishes to its members and employees for future
success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Central
Georgia Electric Membership Corporation.
