RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Daisy Elizabeth Blanchard Watson; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Daisy Elizabeth Blanchard Watson on November 7, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Watson was born in Appling, Georgia, and was an dedicated educator,
talented musician, and Southern lady; and
WHEREAS,
affectionately known as "Miss Daisy," Mrs. Watson attended Women's College of
Georgia and worked as an educator in Stellaville; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Watson was a member of First United
Methodist Church of Gainesville; and
WHEREAS,
she could coax beautiful sounds from a piano without reading the musical notes
and for many years, well into her nineties, she played piano for weekly meetings
of the Kiwanis Club of Gainesville, the Sunshine Class of her church, and many
local nursing homes; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Watson was a lifelong athlete, playing on a championship basketball team in
high school, enjoying tennis, and staying active well into her nineties, taking
daily mile walks when she was 94; and
WHEREAS,
a member of the Gainesville Garden Club and a Study Club, Mrs. Watson served as
a Girl Scout leader and was named a Gracious Lady of Georgia and was honored
with a Distinguished Citizen Award by the City of Gainesville; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Watson was united in love and marriage for 59 wonderful years to the late
Alva Drane Watson, Jr., and was blessed with three children, Elizabeth, Alva
III, and Da Anne; seven grandchildren, James, Elizabeth, Alva IV, Jane, George,
Claudia, and Thomas; and five great-grandchildren, Virginia, James William,
James Michael, Luke, and Victoria; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Watson will long be remembered for her
love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, grandmother, sister, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Daisy Elizabeth Blanchard
Watson and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her
passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Daisy Elizabeth Blanchard Watson.
