RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Iris B. Jessie; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Iris B. Jessie has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Jessie earned a bachelor's degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and a
master's degree from Indiana University; and
WHEREAS,
she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as
evidenced dramatically by her 30 years of superlative public service;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Jessie has served as city manager for the City of Riverdale, Georgia, since
2004, and her leadership has been instrumental in tremendous growth and
development for the city; and
WHEREAS,
during her tenure as city manager, Ms. Jessie has overseen a $60 million
increase in the value of taxable property in the city, budget surpluses, and the
investment of $20 million in construction of a new city hall, community center,
and 800 seat amphitheater; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Jessie has been active in numerous organizations, including the United Way
of Hampton Roads, Conference of Minority Public Administrators, National Forum
for Black Public Administrators, Hope in the Cities, International City-County
Manager's Association, Clayton Archway Partnership, Clayton County Historical
Task Force, and the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Jessie's significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable
patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the
needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration
of her colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Jessie has served with honor and distinction for the City of Riverdale, and
her vision and unyielding commitment set the standard for public service;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Ms. Iris B. Jessie for her efficient, effective, unselfish,
and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend to her their
most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Iris B.
Jessie.
