A RESOLUTION


Recognizing the Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia and commending the Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia's 2012 Youth of the Year, Chantil Coleman; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in small towns and metropolitan areas, youths of this nation are struggling to create bright futures in the face of crime, substance abuse, low fitness levels, and high dropout rates; and

WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs encourages young people through all of its programs and particularly through its Youth of the Year program by promoting and recognizing teens who have developed sound character, leadership abilities, and a willingness to give back to their communities; and

WHEREAS, the Youth of the Year program recognizes teens for outstanding contributions to a member's family, school, community, and Boys and Girls Clubs; and

WHEREAS, the program acknowledges the personal challenges faced by candidates and the obstacles individuals have overcome in their lives; and

WHEREAS, winners of the Youth of the Year program award are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, community service, leadership ability, and the consideration of any physical, social, or emotional obstacles that they have overcome; and

WHEREAS, the winners of this prestigious contest are awarded a $1,000.00 college scholarship, with state winners having the opportunity to be selected as Regional Youth of the Year and National Youth of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the 2012 Georgia Youth of the Year represents young people in Georgia and the over 130,000 young people served by one of the 170 Boys and Girls Clubs state wide; and
WHEREAS, Georgia's 2012 Youth of the Year will be one of nine to compete for the Southeast Regional Youth of the Year award in early summer of 2012, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of the Georgia 2012 Youth of the Year be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia and commend the Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia's 2012 Youth of the Year, Chantil Coleman for a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others and serving as a shining example for all young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia and Chantil Coleman.
