RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Michelle Reynolds Zeanah, recipient of the 2011 Young
Physician of the Year Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Michelle Reynolds Zeanah is the recipient of the 2011 Young Physician of the
Year Award by the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics;
and
WHEREAS,
this marks the fifth year of the presentation of the Young Physician of the Year
Award that acknowledges outstanding contributions from young physician members
of the chapter in the areas of leadership, advocacy, and research and clinical
care; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Zeanah has embraced advocacy for children with a passion as she regularly
attends the Chapter's Legislative Day for the past several years and has built
strong relationships with legislators in her area, regularly communicating with
them about children's issues, including Medicaid, insurance reform,
immunizations, and school bullying; and
WHEREAS,
she received a bachelor's degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1996,
earned her medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in 2002,
and completed her residency at the University of Florida Shands Jacksonville and
Wolfson Children's Hospital in 2005; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Zeanah was a physician at the Children's Group in Statesboro from 2005 to
2007 and since then has been a partner at Bulloch Pediatrics Group in
Statesboro; and
WHEREAS,
she is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, member of the American
Academy of Pediatrics and the Ogeechee River Medical Society, board member of
East Georgia Physicians Group, co-chair of Legislative Dinner, and a 2011
delegate of the Medical Association of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
active in her community, Dr. Zeanah gives her time at the Safe Haven and Family
Skills Center; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Dr. Michelle Reynolds Zeanah for her many contributions to the
field of medicine and her commitment to the welfare of the citizens of her
community and this state and congratulate her on being the recipient of the 2011
Young Physician of the Year Award.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Michelle
Reynolds Zeanah.
