A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Saint Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church Choir #1 on its 100th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Saint Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded by the late Reverend W. J. Williams on April 2, 1910, and the church's first choir was led by the late Brother Matthew Peters; and

WHEREAS, the seeds which were sown by the loving and humble efforts of those devout original singers have grown into a landmark institution under the guiding hands and hearts of its many presidents, directors, and choir members; and

WHEREAS, Choir #1 and its members are humbly committed to providing music that aids and promotes the worship of God; proclaiming through music, the gospel of Jesus Christ, so that unbelievers may seek to know Him; and

WHEREAS, the tremendous talent of Choir #1 is well known throughout Georgia and the Southeast as the choir has sung for engagements located at Georgia's Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the Tennessee Aquarium, and the opening of the Civil Rights Museum in Montgomery, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the loving spiritual assistance offered by this choir as it leads people to worship God through prayer sung through the voices of angels is a source of strength, inspiration, and direction for those who hear and experience the untold beauty of their heavenly harmonies; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message of peace and love through the healing power of music be recognized for its innumerable good works and congratulated upon its growth and continued success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Saint Philip African Methodist Episcopal Church Choir #1 for the many decades of steadfast, unselfish, and loving service to the people of this state and to God; congratulate them upon the occasion of their 100th anniversary; and extend to the choir their best wishes for continued growth and loving service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to President Carlton Allen, Sr., and Director Dr. Anthony Stinson.
