A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Coach Rusty Cram; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia Southern University women's basketball Coach Rusty Cram has guided the program for 16 years as head coach and 21 years as a member of the Lady Eagles coaching staff; and

WHEREAS, he has totaled more than 200 wins as head coach and became the first Georgia Southern University coach to record 100 Southern Conference victories; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have won five Southern Conference championships during his tenure, and he was an assistant coach when the program made its only NCAA tournament appearance; and

WHEREAS, Coach Cram has received numerous honors, including SoCon Coach of the Year in 1997-1998 and two Coach of the Year Awards; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles finished their 2009-2010 season with a 13-7 conference record and a 19-12 overall mark, marking Coach Cram's ninth season with at least 15 wins as head coach; and

WHEREAS, he picked up his 100th career victory in 2002-2003 with the Lady Eagles' second 20-win season in three years; and

WHEREAS, under the astute direction of Coach Cram, the Lady Eagles earned First Team All-Conference, and eight of the players were named to All-SoCon Tournament teams; and

WHEREAS, Coach Cram has helped the Lady Eagles achieve the goals of a college degree by having a higher graduation rate than the federal rate in each of the last six classes, as measured by the National Collegiate Athletic Association; and
WHEREAS, prior to arriving in Statesboro, Coach Cram was a successful coach at high schools in Alabama and Louisiana, winning two state championships in three state finals and more than 200 games; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Jana, and together they are blessed with two remarkable sons, Scott and Ryan; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Coach Rusty Cram on his success on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Rusty Cram.
