RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Willie Brown and inviting him to be recognized by the House
of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Willie Brown has long been recognized for his amazing athletic abilities,
and his determination, drive, and perseverance have earned him the respect and
admiration of others; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Macon, Georgia, Mr. Brown was a state champion in the high jump
while attending Georgia School for the Deaf and was the number one rated deaf
basketball player in America; and
WHEREAS,
he was named Most Valuable Player for three consecutive years at the Mike Glenn
Basketball Camp for the Hearing Impaired in 1981, 1982, and 1983; and
WHEREAS,
one of the first deaf athletes to play college basketball, Mr. Brown played for
two years at Hofstra University and two years at Georgia State University; and
WHEREAS,
this talented basketball player was captain of two World Games for the Deaf
teams and a Pan-American Games for the Deaf team, leading his undefeated teams
to three gold medals; and
WHEREAS,
since his days on the court as a player, Mr. Brown has dedicated his expertise
in basketball as an official for college games, state tournament high school
games, and semi-professional games and has inspired young athletes as a coach
and volunteer with the Mike Glenn Basketball Camp for the Hearing Impaired and
the Atlanta Hawks' youth summer basketball camps; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Brown has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and
energy for the last 14 years to this nation as a member of the United States
Postal Service, where he has served with honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Brown is united in love and marriage to Adesi Brown, and he has been blessed
with three remarkable children, Andrew, Waylon, and Chelsia; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Willie Brown on his amazing basketball career, recognize
his exemplary and selfless service to others, and invite him to be recognized by
the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker
of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Willie
Brown.
