RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Fire Chief Tommy Morgan, outstanding public servant; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Chief Tommy Morgan began serving as a volunteer fire chief for the Conyers
Volunteer Fire Department in 1968 and was selected to serve as the full-time
Fire Chief in 1978; and
WHEREAS,
when the City of Conyers and Rockdale County Fire Departments merged in 1981,
Chief Morgan was given the responsibility of serving as the chief of the
combined Rockdale County Fire Department, and he honorably served as chief until
his retirement in July, 2003; and
WHEREAS,
following his retirement he remained committed to serving his community and
continued his work with the Georgia State Firefighters Association, actively
working on behalf of legislative efforts for fire service and providing valuable
information to many legislative committees of the Georgia General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Morgan has faithfully worked to protect the citizens of Rockdale County
from fire, harm, and loss of life, often at great personal risk to himself, and
his dedicated work in public safety covers an impressive career of more than 40
years; and
WHEREAS,
he is example of the positive effect firefighters have on the lives and
well-being of others as they reach out to selflessly serve and protect their
communities; and
WHEREAS,
he has been a devoted husband to his wife Caroline and a loving father and
grandfather to his two children and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of
Representatives recognize and commend the proven courage, dedication,
outstanding efforts, and longevity of Chief Tommy Morgan.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend Fire Chief Tommy Morgan for his many years of
selfless, faithful service to the citizens of Rockdale County and the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chief Tommy
Morgan.
