RESOLUTION
Recognizing
March 26, 2010, as Boys & Girls Club Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Boys & Girls Clubs in Georgia serve more than 12,500 young people every day,
giving them a safe place to learn and grow after school and during the summer;
and
WHEREAS,
more than 10,000 Boys & Girls Club members in Georgia participate in Power
Hour, a homework assistance program, making school a daily priority for our next
generation; and
WHEREAS,
each day, more than 7,500 young Georgians attend a Club's SMART Moves program, a
drug and premature sexual activity prevention initiative, helping them engage in
more positive behaviors that will enable them to live as productive,
self-sufficient adults; and
WHEREAS,
every day in Georgia, some 11,300 youth participate in their Clubs' Project
Learn, a program that reinforces the skills and knowledge they learn in school;
and
WHEREAS,
12,800 young Georgians attend fitness and recreation programs each day at their
local Boys & Girls Clubs, helping them lead healthy lives; and
WHEREAS,
Boys & Girls Clubs teach young Georgians the skills and knowledge they need
to succeed in school, their careers, and life in general to become tomorrow's
leaders.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body, on behalf of the citizens of Georgia, hereby recognize March 26,
2010, as Boys & Girls Club Day at the state capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
State Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.
