A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Honorable Hugh Lee McDaniel; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Hugh Lee McDaniel was born on October 18, 1923, on a farm in Cobb County; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Air Force for 37 months, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during World War II on one of the 329th Combat Cargo Teams, flying C-47s over the Himalayas; and

WHEREAS, he served five terms as a State Representative under Governors Sanders, Maddox, and Carter; and

WHEREAS, he served as chairman of the State Parks Committee, secretary of the Highway Committee, and member of the Highway Study Committee to design the Outer Loop; and

WHEREAS, he built numerous subdivisions and commercial buildings in Cobb County, including Terrell Mill Estates and Hasty Meadows; owned and operated his own insurance, real estate, land development, and building business in East Cobb; and developed, built, and operated Cohutta Lodge on Fort Mountain; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Marian Aileen Thompson for over 60 years, and through this union they are blessed with three remarkable daughters, seven wonderful grandchildren, and three adored great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Honorable Hugh Lee McDaniel for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to the State of Georgia and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable Hugh Lee McDaniel.
