A RESOLUTION


Commending and recognizing Jessie Goree; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Jessie Goree was born on December 5, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, a loving daughter to Evelyn Goree; and

WHEREAS, she is blessed with two remarkable children, Jessica and Isaiah, and two special granddaughters, Kennedy and MacKenzie; and

WHEREAS, she decided at a very young age that she wanted to become an educator, and following high school she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1975 from the University of Louisville, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Ohio State University in 1977, and later earned the Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Troy State University in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Jessie is the most distinguished member of the Clayton County Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, she is very active in her community, and has been in the NAACP; a board member of the Krystal Williams Foundation; a member of the National Action Network; Mentor, National Alliance of Black School Educators; the Georgia School Board Association; the East Point/College Park chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; the National Center for Family Literacy; NCTM; Chapters Book Club; the Frank Bailey Senior Center; and New Macedonia Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Jessie Goree has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in education and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of Georgia's youth; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her determination to improve the quality of education for all Georgians have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues, students, and neighbors; and it is abundantly fitting and proper that her outstanding accomplishments be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Jessie Goree on her contributions as an educator and her services to the community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Jessie Goree.
