RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Albert Phillips Reichert; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Albert Phillips Reichert on February 16, 2012;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Reichert was born on January 25, 1914, in Columbus, Georgia, a beloved son
of Jacob and Ann Phillips Reichert; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Naval Reserve as an officer in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters,
valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during World War II;
and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Reichert was an active member of Vineville
United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS,
he enrolled at Emory University in 1932 where he was a member and president of
Sigma Alpha Epsilon and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was inducted into the
Emory Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS,
he received a master's degree in philosophy from Duke University in 1937 and,
after the war, worked full-time for the railroad while attending Mercer's Walter
F. George School of Law full-time, graduating cum laude in 1948;
and
WHEREAS,
he practiced law at Anderson, Anderson, and Walker, which later became Anderson,
Walker, and Reichert; and
WHEREAS,
a noted attorney and adjunct professor at Mercer University, he was honored
numerous times, receiving the Tradition of Excellence Award from the State Bar
of Georgia and the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award and the Outstanding Alumnus
Award from Mercer University; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Reichert was a member and president of the Macon Rotary Club, a member and
state chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and a member
and chair of the State Board of Bar Examiners and the Board to Determine Fitness
of Bar Applicants; and
WHEREAS,
he was united in love and marriage to his wife of 75 years, the late Elizabeth
Walton Bowen "Chunk" Reichert, and was blessed with three remarkable sons,
Albert Phillips, Jr., Stephen Allan, and Robert Adger Bowen; four wonderful
grandchildren, Albert Phillips Reichert III, John Walker Reichert, Elizabeth
Bowen Reichert, and Thomas Dunwody Reichert; and three adored
great-grandchildren, Eden Pape, Luna Walker, and Sarana Burnam Reichert;
and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Reichert will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal son, husband, father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of
knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Albert Phillips Reichert and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Albert Phillips Reichert.
