A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. Andrew Broy; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrew Broy has been on the forefront of the fight to expand charter schools in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Broy has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and energy to ensuring that all Georgia students have access to quality education, regardless of their ZIP code, as associate state superintendent for the Georgia Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Broy's leadership, the number of Georgia charter schools increased from 42 in 2006 to 121, with 124 letters of intent to start up new campuses received this year; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, this gifted and passionate advocate for school choice was recently named president of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Broy will continue to serve the students of Georgia as an attorney and consultant for the department and on the board of the Alliance of Public Charter School Attorneys, working nationally to help shape policy and aid charter campuses in gaining equal access to funding; and

WHEREAS, although Mr. Broy's daily presence with the Department of Education will be sorely missed upon his move to Illinois, his influence and work will be evident in the many charter schools that have been established in this state under his supervision.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Andrew Broy for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued success in his new position.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Andrew Broy.
