A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock on February 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a beloved son of Jimmy and Clare Whitlock, Captain Whitlock was united in love and marriage to Ashley; and

WHEREAS, a native of Newnan, he was a 2001 honor graduate of Newnan High School, where he played football and baseball, was an Eagle Scout, and earned his private pilot license while flying at Falcon Field in Peachtree City and at Newnan-Coweta Airport; and

WHEREAS, he received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mercer University and a Master of Business Administration from the Univeristy of Florida; and

WHEREAS, Captain Whitlock has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Air Force after receiving his commission through the Officer Training School in 2006 and was assigned to the 319th Special Operations Squadron (SOS) followed by the 34th SOS at Hurlburt Field and logged more than 800 combat flight hours; and

WHEREAS, he was promoted to captain in November of 2010 and was a U-28A pilot on his fifth deployment; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was one of four Air Force members who died in a plane crash in Djibouti, and is among 104 other members of the United States military who died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom outside of Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Captain Whitlock will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal son, husband, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Captain Nicholas Schade Whitlock.
