A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Marie H. Roberts on the occasion of her retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Marie H. Roberts has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative service with the Georgia Port Authority; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Port Authority operates deepwater seaport facilities in Savannah and Brunswick and inland barge terminals in Bainbridge and Columbus, and is regarded as one of the most successful and respected port authorities in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Marie H. Roberts has been committed to the mission of GPA and contributed immeasurably to the success of the Authority and the economic growth of the State of Georgia throughout her career; and

WHEREAS, she has spent over 27 years serving the GPA in increasing levels of responsibility and has consistently sacrificed personal time and given freely to the organization; and

WHEREAS, she has been a leader in overseeing the dramatic rise of Savannah to the fourth busiest container port in the United States and Brunswick to the fifth largest auto port in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Marie H. Roberts has been the point person for numerous property acquisitions, developments, and port financing programs during her tenure with the GPA; and
WHEREAS, she has been a valuable asset to the General Assembly and the Governor's office, as well as agencies and departments throughout the state government, and is widely recognized as an expert in state law, policy, and financing; and

WHEREAS, her work ethic, moral direction, and character are recognized and appreciated by government, business, and civic leaders throughout the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Marie H. Roberts for her service to the State of Georgia throughout her distinguished career with the Georgia Port Authority, congratulate her upon the grand occasion of her retirement, and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Marie H. Roberts.
