Congratulating the Gatewood Lady Gators basketball team for winning the 2010 Class AAA State Championship and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Gatewood Lady Gators basketball team demonstrated a feat of greatness with a 50-49 victory over Trinity Christian Academy on February 17, 2010, in the GC&SU Centennial Center to clinch the 2010 Class AAA State Championship, proving that the Lady Gators basketball team is a force to be reckoned with; and

WHEREAS, in addition to their state title win, the Lady Gators had an incredible season with an overall record of 29-2, with their only two regular season losses coming from Trinity Christian Academy; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and their superb offensive and defensive talents; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Gators were challenged to succeed and led by the astute direction of Head Coach Melanie Walls and Assistant Coaches Ansley Winslette, Teena Garland, and Holly Gale; and

WHEREAS, this all star team included 14 stellar athletes dedicated to bringing a state title home to Gatewood: Jordan Camp, Shelley Cogdell, Hannah Davis, Savannah Douglass, Blaine Garland, Macy Malcom, Logan Matysiak, Maria McMillen, Blair Milo, Alix Pierson, Abbie Ringer, Keeli Smith, Rachel Willis, and Anna Wooten; and

WHEREAS, the team had constant support from fans, parents, and friends and were encouraged both on and off the court by Scorekeeper Joyce Gunn and Managers Kensley Fuller, Amanda Chandler, and Gregory Lancaster; and
WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Gatewood Lady Gators basketball team for winning the 2010 Class AAA State Championship and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Melanie Walls.
