RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Gilmer High School robotics team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Gilmer High School robotics team, also known as GEARS (Gilmer Engineering
and Robotics), is heading to the state FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition
after a stellar performance in a qualifying event at Athens Academy that won
them the PTC Design Award; and
WHEREAS,
the team consists of students in Michael Shawler's Applied Physics class and is
in its inaugural year at Gilmer High School; and
WHEREAS,
the team has been designing, building, and testing a robot that can accomplish
the tasks required for this year's FTC competition; and
WHEREAS,
at the qualifier, participating robots were required to fit into an 18 inch
sizing cube at the beginning of the round but could expand to any size during
the match; and
WHEREAS,
the team's phenomenal performance is a clear indication of the outstanding
dedication, hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the
team; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of designing and building, it
is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the members of the Gilmer High School robotics team for their
PTC Design Award win, applaud them for their months of hard work and dedication
which enabled them to qualify to compete in the state FIRST Tech Challenge, and
extend to them best wishes on all their future academic endeavors.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Gilmer
High School robotics team.
