RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the "Buy DeKalb!" Initiative; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
DeKalb County's strong economy and employment base continues to expand rapidly,
driving economic growth throughout the county and offering employers one of the
largest, easy to access labor draw areas in the state; and
WHEREAS,
DeKalb ranks third in total population with nearly 700,000 residents and is
projected to increase 4 percent in the next decade by adding another 25,000
residents; and
WHEREAS,
composed of DeKalb and five other counties that often provide workers for DeKalb
businesses, the labor force in DeKalb County grew 9.7 percent from 2000 to 2009
and employment grew 23 percent in the last decade, adding nearly 70,000 net new
jobs; and
WHEREAS,
DeKalb is home to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, Georgia's second largest airport;
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; AT&T; and several major
colleges and universities, which lends itself to a growing international
community; and
WHEREAS,
it is the most ethnically diverse county in the Southeast with over 64 spoken
languages; and
WHEREAS,
DeKalb residents' personal income is the third highest in Georgia and
14 percent above the state average; and
WHEREAS,
with the diversity of products manufactured and services offered by DeKalb
County businesses, home should be the first place that DeKalb businesses look
when searching for vendors; and
WHEREAS,
the "Buy DeKalb!" Initiative will promote the variety and flexibility of
businesses in DeKalb to other businesses in the county, as well as to the
public; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this innovative initiative be appropriately recognized.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the contributions of the "Buy DeKalb!" Initiative for its
plan on boosting the economy.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public
and the press.
