RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Patrick O'Neal; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Patrick O'Neal has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
his leadership in the field of medicine, his compassionate treatment of his
patients, and his deep concern for the well-being of others; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Rome, Georgia, Dr. O'Neal diligently and conscientiously dedicates
his time, talents, and expertise to the citizens of Georgia as the director of
the Division of Emergency Preparedness & Response of the Georgia Department
of Community Health; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. O'Neal earned a bachelor's degree from Davidson College, a medical degree
from Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed an internship at
Providence Hospital in Portland, Oregon; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Air Force, valiantly and courageously serving as a flight surgeon in
Vietnam; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. O'Neal served as director of the Outpatient Clinic at the Medical Center of
Central Georgia for two years before entering the practice of emergency medicine
at DeKalb Medical Center in 1973; and
WHEREAS,
he practiced emergency medicine for 29 years at DeKalb Medical Center, serving
as the facility's medical director for EMS and as the regional medical director
for EMS throughout the Greater Atlanta area; and
WHEREAS,
in his current position as director of the Division of Emergency Preparedness
& Response, Dr. O'Neal traveled throughout this state implementing trauma
networks and ensuring facilities were prepared for possible local H1N1
outbreaks.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Dr. Patrick O'Neal for his outstanding contributions to the
field of emergency medicine and recognize his selfless, efficient, and effective
public service to the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Patrick
O'Neal.
