A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of George Hammond Law, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of George Hammond Law, Jr., on January 14, 2012; and

WHEREAS, George Hammond Law, Jr., was born on May 12, 1929, in Americus, Georgia, a beloved son of George Hammond Law, Sr., and Helen Johnson Law; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith who exemplified the tenets of his faith, Mr. Law was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville for over 75 years and served as deacon there for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Air Force for two years and continued his military career in the reserves for many more years, attaining the rank of Captain; and

WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to Susan Reid Manley Law for 54 years and from this union they were blessed with five remarkable children, Elizabeth Law Hein, G. Hammond Law III, Dr. James Fletcher Law, Helen Law Perry, and Susan Law Tarleton; 13 adored grandchildren; and two wonderful great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Law was involved in many civic organizations which included being a past president of the Gainesville Rotary Club and a member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, an avid sports player, he played on the offensive and defensive lines for Gainesville High School's football team; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his degree in business; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, George Hammond Law, Jr., will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of George Hammond Law, Jr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of George Hammond Law, Jr.
