A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Miller Leslie Watkins, Jr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Miller Leslie Watkins, Jr., on December 30, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Miller was born on October 20, 1938, in Augusta, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Evelyn Pate Watkins and Miller Leslie Watkins, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Miller was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class; and

WHEREAS, Miller was united in love and marriage to Jane Watkins and was blessed with two remarkable children, Miller Leslie Watkins III and Amanda Watkins; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from Georgia Southern University and started his career at the Georgia Power Company in 1962, where he served as Northeast Georgia district manager from 1972 until his retirement in 1995; and

WHEREAS, he was an original board member of Lanier Park Hospital, president of the Hall County Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club, and active with many local civic organizations and boards; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by other; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Miller Leslie Watkins, Jr., will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, husband, son, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Miller Leslie Watkins, Jr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Miller Leslie Watkins, Jr.
