RESOLUTION
Commemorating
Madison Hardware and Supply; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Madison Hardware and Supply started its business in 1962 when Demus Gilbert and
Leroy Whitley partnered together to purchase the inventory of the Fears Rock
Store and has since been passed down to Demus's son, Madison Mayor Bruce
Gilbert; and
WHEREAS,
Bruce Gilbert recently announced that Madison Hardware and Supply will soon be
out of business; and
WHEREAS,
the iconic Madison Hardware and Supply has been housed in a historic livery
stable since 1975; and
WHEREAS,
the store has remained a consistent ally to working men and women and a mainstay
for the Gilbert family, which now includes Bruce Gilbert, his wife, Judy
Gilbert, and their three remarkable children, Chris Hodges, Lee Gilbert, and
Curt Gilbert; and
WHEREAS,
under the guiding hands of the Gilbert family, this outstanding company has
grown from its humble beginnings to become an anchor in Morgan County;
and
WHEREAS,
Madison Hardware and Supply has established a glowing reputation throughout
Georgia for providing dedicated customer service, a sense of community, and
assisting fellow neighbors in need; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this family owned company be
appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commemorate Madison Hardware and Supply on the many years of business
and success that it has accomplished and that will be missed by the
community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Gilbert family.
