A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. James C. Metts, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. James C. Metts, Jr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this state
for the vital role that he has played in the field of medicine and his deep
personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
a physician in Savannah, Georgia, Dr. Metts, Jr., has diligently and
conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talent, and leadership to
improving the lives of others through his work in the area of cardiovascular
disease prevention; and
WHEREAS,
in 1969, Dr. Metts, Jr., organized, led, funded, and inspired a community-wide
effort to reduce suffering, disability, and premature death caused by stroke,
heart attack, and kidney failure; and
WHEREAS,
he was recognized by the Georgia Department of Human Resources for his Community
Cardiovascular Council, which was used as a model for the state-wide Stroke and
Heart Attack Prevention Program (SHAPP); and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Metts, Jr.'s Community Cardiovascular Council has successfully lowered the
stroke rate by 72 percent and the heart attack death rate by 36 percent in
Chatham and Effingham counties; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as an advocate for funding for the SHAPP program and a champion of
the program's success throughout this state; and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Dr. James C. Metts, Jr., for his four decades of efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia;
recognize him for his persistent efforts which have saved thousands of lives,
prevented thousands of disabilities, and resulted in a better quality of life
for innumerable citizens; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for
continued success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. James C.
Metts, Jr.
