1                          Senate Resolution 
2         A resolution recognizing and celebrating the 
3         historical and cultural ties between Miami-Dade County 
4         and the Bahamas and expressing appreciation to Consul 
5         General Gladys Johnson-Sands for her support of the 
6         June 5, 2010, “Li’l Bahamas All Tings Caribbean 
7         Village” in Coconut Grove.

9         WHEREAS, Bahamian immigrants cast 162 of the 367 votes that 
10  incorporated the City of Miami on July 28, 1896, and 
11         WHEREAS, the descendents of these immigrant craftsmen, 
12  farmers, and fishermen have contributed much to South Florida’s 
13  emergence as an international destination for hospitality and 
14  tourism, and 
15         WHEREAS, on June 5, 2010, the Bahamian consulate will host 
16  the first “Li’l Bahamas All Tings Caribbean Village” in Coconut 
17  Grove featuring the Junkanoo Jam, which will present the best of 
18  calypso, rake and scrape, junkanoo, and gospel, and 
19         WHEREAS, the Li’l Bahamas All Tings Caribbean Village will 
20  include a Bahamian pavilion promoting sustainable tourism and 
21  hospitality, green living, the marine industry, travel, real 
22  estate, trade and commerce, finance and investment, and arts and 
23  crafts made by emerging and master artists from the Bahamas, and 
24         WHEREAS, the Li’l Bahamas All Tings Caribbean Village is 
25  the brainchild of Consul General Gladys Johnson-Sands, who is 
26  dedicated to the realization of her vision for a new Afro 
27  Bahamian Culture and Commerce Center for Economic, Family, and 
28  Community Development, which will include a cottage industry 
29  business incubator, NOW, THEREFORE,

31  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

33         That the members of the Senate recognize and celebrate the 
34  historical and cultural ties between Miami-Dade County and the 
35  Bahamas and express appreciation to Consul General Gladys 
36  Johnson-Sands for her support of the June 5, 2010, “Li’l Bahamas 
37  All Tings Caribbean Village” in Coconut Grove.
