    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution commending the osteopathic physicians of
    3         this state and recognizing April 13, 2011, as
    4         “Osteopathic Medicine Day” in Florida.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, there are currently more than 70,000 osteopathic
    7  physicians in the United States, and
    8         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide health care
    9  services that account for more than 76 million patient visits in
   10  this country each year, and
   11         WHEREAS, this state has three accredited osteopathic
   12  hospitals, two osteopathic medical colleges, and the third
   13  largest osteopathic physician population in the nation, and
   14         WHEREAS, osteopathic manipulation of the musculoskeletal
   15  system is a viable and proven technique for many diagnoses and
   16  treatments and provides an alternative to many drug therapies,
   17  and
   18         WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide comprehensive
   19  medical care, including preventive medicine, diagnoses, and the
   20  appropriate use of drugs, surgery, manipulation, and hospital
   21  referrals, NOW, THEREFORE,

   23  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   24  
   25         That the osteopathic physicians of this state are commended
   26  for their contributions to the health of all Floridians and
   27  April 13, 2011, is recognized as “Osteopathic Medicine Day” in
   28  Florida.
